He married Margaret Ann Lewis. Margaret was born July 5, 1751. Margaret was the daughter of Thomas Lewis and Jane Strother. Margaret died Janurary, 1834 at 82 years of age.

Capt. John McClanahan Sr. and Margaret Ann Lewis had the following children:

2 i. Thomas Lewis² McClanahan. Thomas died November 14, 1774.
