1. John¹ Carthrae was born Rockingham Co., VA. John died ca. 1850 Saline Co., MO.

He married Sophia Lewis September 24, 1792. Sophia was born October 18, 1775. Sophia was the daughter of Thomas Lewis and Jane Strother. Sophia died 1860 Saline Co., MO, at 84 years of age.

John Carthrae and Sophia Lewis had the following children:

2 i. Mary² Carthrae. She married Col. Charles Lewis Bankhead. Col. was the son of Dr. John Bankhead. (See Col. Charles Lewis Bankhead for the continuation of this line.)

3 ii. Eliza F. Carthrae. She married William S. McDowell May 15, 1821. William was the son of William McDowell.

+ 4 iii. Charles L. Carthrae.

+ 5 iv. Lewis Carthrae was born March 19, 1798.

+ 6 v. Addison Fletcher Carthrae was born 1814.
